Guv`nor

by JJ Doom

(2012)

In Guv'nor, JJ Doom raps about his mentors, brothers, and teachers who helped him learn about being a true lyricist starting from the group KMD to MF Doom. In the line ¨Catch a throatful from the fire vocaled/Ash and molten glass like Eyjafjallajökull/The volcano out of Iceland/He'll conquer and destroy the rap world like the white men¨ uses a metaphor. The meaning of the line is that he is hotter than Eyjafjallajökull , which is an Icelandic volcano and that just like white invaders he will detroys and take everything that get in his way of conquering the rap game. The effect of the figurative language is to show that now that he learned from the greatest he raps as or even better because his experience and time is now deep. In the line ¨Started with a bird nest and burnt it to a cinder is a metaphor. The meaning of the line is to compare himself to a bird that grew out of his nest and his fire being vocalized turned the nest into a cinder. The effect of the figurative language is to show how he went from a rookie to a master to a legend.Overall the language contributes to the nostalgic tone which connects to my future.
